6 Ways To Tackle Blue Monday

Hey lovelies!

We’ve all heard of Blue Monday – the day that falls on the third Monday of each January, every year. It is supposed to be (according to experts) the time when we are most likely to feel depressed/miserable/sad. This is probably due to the fact that we’ve spent a sh#t load at Christmas; we haven’t been paid; we have made resolutions that are beginning to take their toll; the weather is, at best, bleak and life generally sucks. Don’t fear my friends – here are 6 ways we can tackle that Blue Monday feeling and get back ahead of the game. Read on:

1.Breathe

When it all gets a bit too much to bear and we are feeling miserable or anxious, there is something that we can all do at any moment to help ourselves. Simply close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Take in long, slow and deep breaths and repeat 10 times – everything will feel that bit calmer and become easier to deal with. #breathingworks

2.Laugh

Minions laughing
Credit: Giphy

OK, I’m not suggesting some Patch Adams theory of laughter overcoming all obstacles or illnesses, but there really is something to be said for this technique. When we are faced with adversity or stress, we all have a choice either to laugh or let sadness take over. Sadness and stress doesn’t solve anything – it just makes things that much worse. Choose laughter – even when you don’t want to, especially when you don’t want to. It will train your brain to gain a better perspective, and gradually life will become a bit more peaceful.

3.Talk

Credit: Giphy

Yes people, life is crap. But we are not alone in this. When life gives you a twist of lemon, talk to a friend, a colleague, a therapist, anyone. You will be surprised that even if you have someone there to listen and not necessarily advise, this will help relieve those Blue Monday symptoms.

4.Dance

The Simpsons
Credit: Giphy

I’m a great believer in dancing away your problems. You don’t even need to leave the house. Put your favourite upbeat songs on and just dance and sing for a while. If that is not your thing, do whatever is – maybe going for a run, bike ride or some meditation – it doesn’t matter – just do something to get rid of the negativity.

5.Plan

So, unless you are really fortunate, many of you (like me) will be broke right now. That said, this Blue Monday make plans for something you really want to do this year: the festival you don’t want to miss or a comedy club, or even a getaway somewhere. There’s no need to book it yet, just do some research and write down the steps you need to take to make it happen – realistic goals people, that your brain actually knows it can achieve. Then stick the plan of action on your fridge.

6.Avoid Depressants

Easier said than done, I know. But there is nothing that makes life that much crapper than when you are feeling blue and have a drink. In the same respect, take it easy on caffeine and sugar, or anything that will give you a short high followed by a massive crash. It’s never worth it.

Do you have any thoughts on Blue Monday? Leave me a message in the comments below – and have a good day people xx

Valentine’s Day Gifts That Are WAY Better Than Chocolate And Flowers

Hey Lovelies!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and whilst we are aware it may well be yet another well-marketed way of cashing in on the customer, we need something to cheer us up on the frankly freezing cold and dreary winter mornings – and what better way of doing this than imagining the postman falling over as he struggles to carry a tonne of cards and presents to your door? For anyone wondering what to gift the love of their life this February 14, read on:

1.Personalised Wood Memory Box For Couples by DUST AND THINGS, £17.49 (Was £34.99), notonthehighstreet.com

2.Return To Tiffany Bead Bracelet, £145, tiffany.co.uk

OK, so maybe there is something that beats the memory box; behold the Tiffany’s Bead Bracelet. As a true sucker for all Tiffany’s jewellery, I may be slightly biased – but I think this beautifully elegant bead bracelet featuring a mini heart tag in pink would be a winner this Valentine’s Day.

3.Personalised Plaited Leather Bracelet, £14.99, prezzybox.com

Whilst it might not go down to well should he buy you an expensive Tiffany’s bracelet and I return you gifted him this – something has to be said for the romantic gesture this man’s bracelet evokes. Featuring a matte metal engraved charm, he doesn’t need to be a hippie or surfer to appreciate this gorgeously stylish band. After all, each time he glances at his watch/Fitbit/sleeve he will (hopefully) smile at your thoughtful declaration of love.

4.Personalised I Love You Candle, £8.99, findmeagift.co.uk

Everyone loves a candle, don’t they? Even if they aren’t at the top of your fave list, come the most romantic night of the year, these little gems are a must-have. So, what better way to show your adoration for that special someone by making them their perfect meal, amidst candlelight that is that little bit more special?

5.Multi Photo Upload Framed Print – Photos With Message, £19.99, gettingpersonal.co.uk

Nothing says “I love you and I made a real effort this year” more than this Multi Photo Upload Print. 2.SkinCeuticals Vitamin C E Ferulic Serum, £135 (30ml), www.skinceuticals.co.uk

OK, I know this is crazy expensive – but if you’ve read any of my reviews you will know I totally rate SkinCeuticals products for their superior results. This brand is in a league of its own. Should your skin look dehydrated, dull, tired and in desperate need of help (as does mine of late), take a leap of faith and invest in this serum. It will not disappoint, and a little goes a long way.

3.Obagi Professional C-20 Serum, £96.49 (30ml), www.cosmedic-clinic.co.uk

Obagi has been the name on top skincare specialists’ lips for some time now and when it comes to skin transformation, people in the know swear by its almost magical properties. I would recommend purchasing an Obagi skincare package for optimal results. However, if you were to buy just one of their products, this is the one. Renowned for its skin brightening and plumping abilities, the Professional Vitamin C Serum is one of the greats.

4.Sunday Riley C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum, £70, www.spacenk.com/uk

Another incredible brand has to be Sunday Riley. Their vitamin C Rapid Flash Brightening Serum is a true hero product. Want to tackle fine lines, hyperpigmentation, uneven tone? This cult product does all its name suggests, and a whole lot more besides! I love this.

5.Inkey List Vitamin C Serum, £7.99, cultbeauty.co.uk

Should the other products seem a tad pricey (particularly as it’s January and we are all broke), The inkey List’s Vitamin C Serum is a fantastic alternative. Providing a huge 30% L-ascorbic acid, the serum ensures amazing skin brightening, plumping and protective antioxidant benefits, without making a dent in our back accounts. Yay!

The Oscars: Discover The Latest A-Lister Facial Beauty Treatments

Hey Lovelies!

I can’t believe it’s come around so quickly, but on February 25th the world will be watching as A-listers make their way to the highly anticipated 91st Academy Awards ceremony, otherwise known as the Oscars. Each year, celebrities seek-out the latest facial beauty treatments to ensure they stun on the night. Check out some of the amazing (and unbelievably costly) beauty procedures celebs undergo to make sure they are red carpet ready. Sadly, for us mere mortals, flawless certainly comes with a hefty price tag).

1.LED Facial And Light Therapies, Cost Varies Considerably Depending On Clinics.

Credit: beautiful buys.org

LED facials are ever-growing in popularity – so I’m thinking they work quite well. Utilising wavelengths of light, these facials are touted for successfully healing, treating and rejuvenating the skin. Whether you are looking to diminish acne and pigmentation, or simply want a firmer, more plump and luminous complexion, LED facials are fast, non-invasive treatments that promise excellent results. (The Kardashians are said to be huge fans).

One of the newest trends is to have what is known as a Hybrid Energy Lift (£6000 available at Harrods). This method of facial rejuvenation involves using ultrasound, infrared, light and laser in one single session to stimulate collagen reduction and treat all layers of the face. Wow!

2.Oxygen Mist Facial, From £200

Gywneth Paltrow
Credit: Wikipedia.org

So many celebrities love this procedure and after hearing Gwyneth Paltrow is a huge fan (and seeing a recent picture of her clear and dewy complexion) I will be booking an appointment for this ASAP! N.B: Apparently Madonna and Kim Kardashian own an Oxygen Facial machine – and if I had a spare £15,000 so would i!

This facial actually makes a lot of sense. Oxygen is needed for the body’s cells to work at optimal level. The procedure is basically being blasted in the face by pure oxygen. Not only does this improve hydration, reduce pore size and diminish toxins, but it also involves administering high-performance skincare products that are then absorbed that much better, achieving incredible results and undeniable radiance.

3.Non-Surgical Blepharoplasty, From £1000.

eyelid
Credit: Wikipedia.org

This procedure is performed to reduce the appearance of hooded or droopy eyelids and may well be a popular  choice when preparing for the Oscars. Often using nano plasma technology, the treatment is delivered to the superficial skin cells and can reduce excess skin on both the upper and lower eyelids and can also reduce any excess skin around the eyes, so crow’s feet are diminished too.

4.Microneedling, From £300

Credit: dhgate.com

Although this treatment isn’t new, it remains a hit for many and is bound to be one of the favoured beauty procedures pre-Oscar night. It consists of puncturing the skin with many tiny holes to trigger the skin’s own healing response, thus increasing the production of collagen and elastin. This effectively delivers a more plump and youthful complexion (and it isn’t as painful as it sounds). Great microneedling pens are also available to buy (see image above) and are a fab investment if you adhere to the instructions.

5.The Penis Facial, £500.

kate beckinsale
Credit: Wikipedia.org

If you thought the Vampire facial was freaky (I’ve actually tried this, and it is), then check out the latest beauty treatment loved by Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale – behold the Penis Facial. The proper name given for this facial – to make it sound a little less gruesome than reality dictates – is the EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor Serum) and is made from cells cloned from new-born foreskins. Ugh! This costly hour-long procedure consists of cleansing, followed by a chemical peel, electrifying mask, during which the serum and a few peptides are applied via a microneedling wand. Probably the grossest way of spending £500 in an hour.

6.Ruby And Diamond Facial, £7000

Allegedly loved by Mila Kunis (and for some reason I can’t quite fathom, not many other people), this insane treatment is referred to as an HD Diamond and Ruby Peel. It involves putting an ice cube (or two) in your mouth and sucking it to reduce the ensuing inflammation of having these precious stones rubbed all over your face. Hmmm. Not so sure about this one!

Have you heard of any other new facial treatments or tried any of the above procedures? Let me know your thoughts.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!xx

Check Out These Key Spring/Summer 2019 Trends You Can Buy In The Sales

Hey Lovelies!

With the commencement of 2019 well underway, it’s time to check out the key trends for S/S 2019. Before you rush out to buy some skinny jeans in the January sales, check out what’s going to a fashion hit this year and grab yourself some spring/summer fashion items at a bargain price. A top tip is to look for items of colour (especially beige varieties and pastels), the boho style, suits and wide legged trousers (all set to be key fashion trends this year)).

1.Above-Knee Split Skinny Jeans: Blue Sinner High Waisted Side Split Skinny Jeans, £11 (Was £28), www.missguided.co.uk

Credit: Missguided

Whilst there appears to be no end in sight for the skinny jeans trend, 2019’s look will encompass the above-the-knee or higher split rip. Should you wish to God not to have to squeeze into another pair as long as you live, you will be pleased to know that flares will still have a huge place. Phew!

2.Sequins: 2 In 1 Chiffon Top Sequin Skirt Bodycon Dress, £26.25 (Was £32), www.boohoo.com

boohoo sequin dress
Credit: Boohoo.com

The party season may have come and gone (sadly), but (love them or hate them)), sequins are set to stay. Make a statement in this gorgeous 2-in-1 bodycon dress which is so on-trend and will remain so for the foreseeable.

3.Zebra Print: Zebra Print Tote Bag, £11.19 (Was £15.99), www.newlook.com

Credit: newlook.com

Animal print has been just about everywhere (to the point where I’m wondering whether we are all in fact about to embark upon safari). I’m not a huge lover of this trend, but it’s going nowhere. This year leopard print will remain solid, but there’s a new animal in town and it’s the zebra. If, like me, you are not a massive fan, why not simply nod to the trend by way of a sassy tote such as this one you can pick up in the sales?

4.Floral: Floral Print Random Self Tie Cami Dress, £8.99, www.shein.co.uk

stein floral dress
Credit: shein.co.uk

Now this is a trend I can get on-board with. Channelling my inner hippie, I am all about the flower-power vibe – and there’s nothing better than the sun shining on a beautiful floral dress to make you feel good. Versace is so right! Big bold statement prints are going to be a hit so why not dazzle in this gorgeous dress by Shein – and only £8.99. #Happydays.

5.Western Boots: Freya Stitch Detail Cowboy Boots, £20 (Was £35) Boohoo.com

boohoo cowboy boots
Credit: Bohoo.com

There’s something truly awesome about cowboy boots (every time I buy some I feel like I should definitely be living the cowgirl dream in America). Oh well, I will have to settle for wearing some cool boots for now – and there is nothing better than a pair of these little gems. Team them with a floral dress (see above). #Lovethesales. #Lovingthetrend!

6.Satin and Lace Trends: Asos Design Tailored Occasion Satin Single Breasted Blazer, £38.50 (Was £55), www.asos.com

asos satin blaser
Credit: Asos

I am so happy that lace and satin are two key material trends for spring/summer. They instantly transform your look into one of sexy sassiness and they feel SO GOOD! Satin and suits are going to be massive this season, so now that I have found this I will be looking for the satin trousers – and my life will be complete!

What are your favourite SS 2019 trends? Have you bought any bargains? Let me know in the comments below and have a happy Friday! xx

The 10 Best Films To Watch During The Christmas Break

Hey Lovelies!

Well the festive season is drawing to a close – but there’s still time to get in a few more awesome classic films during the Christmas break. All of the following films are a must-watch, and although I must have seen them 100 times, they NEVER get old.

1.Heat (1995)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

This film is one of my all-time faves and with a cast comprising of Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer and Al Pacino, the movie will never go out of style. One question – why, oh why did the baddies not get away (apart from Val of course)?

2.The Usual Suspects (1995)

Credit: WIkipedia.org

Excuse the low-res image. Another classic, this very clever film will keep you guessing right until the end. Furthermore, you notice more clues each time you watch it.

3.War of the Worlds (2005)

Credit: Amazon

Love this sci-fi film which was originally a sci-fi novel by H.G. Wells – and if aliens were to invade, this is probably the way it would go. Also, Tom Cruise never seems to age! What’s that all about? What can I say, other than this is an awesome film everyone should see?

4.Oblivion (2013)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

Are we an effective team? No, we are no longer an effective team. Brilliant.

5.The Bourne Identity (2002)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

Matt Damon, oh Matt, how I love you. Why don’t I have a Matt Damon (this version) in my life? After seeing is, I sadly go back to realising life is crap.

6.Deadpool (2016)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

Probably the funniest film ever. Ryan Reynolds couldn’t have played this part better. I know everyone raves about Deadpool 2, but in my eyes, it is more of the same. However, the first one was so funny, it would be impossible for the second to be a flop. N.B: A good idea to wait until after the kids are asleep to watch this one.

7.Forest Gump (1994)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

I used to adore Tom Hanks – he was an incredible actor. This tear-jerker gets me every time I see it.

8.The Green Mile (1999)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

I hadn’t seen this film in years and then it was on the TV the other day and immediately drew me in. Warning: prepare for extreme heart-rendering tears.

9.Oceans 11 (The Original, 2001)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

All of my favourite actors doing what they do best – when I watch this I am literally in heaven. Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, George Clooney, Andy Garcia – what more could a girl ask for? Apart from to do another – with the same damn cast! Grrr.

10.Ps I Love You (2007)

Credit: Wikipedia.org

This romance film is my favourite but I am left crying for days afterwards. Don’t watch this unless you have a mountain of comfort foods to the ready.

What are your best films? Leave your comments below and have a fabulous New Year’s Eve! xx

In a recent study whereby, prosecco and champagne were given to blindfolded customers, the customers chose the prosecco as their favourite. Win, win.

The Cruelty Of Dementia

A thief, lurking in the shadows of time, waiting for its moment of victory. Carefully creeping further and further into the brain. Whilst you are sleeping it is silently eating away your reality. Each time I look, chunks of you are gone, eroded, consumed by this sick cancer they call dementia, until one day there will be nothing but your shell.

Sat facing you, I am forced to watch your death in slow motion. “Don’t let your tea get cold,” but my throat constricts as I try to smile reassuringly. I watch your Confusion – you pick up the same letter over and over, trying to piece together some logic, some sense – as If your life depended on the answer to a letter from some random posted charity request. For a brief moment I notice a flicker of realisation – the way the sunlight breaks past permanent cloud to shine in through the window onto metal – a stark glimmer of unwanted light, blinding, painful – from which we both recoil.

How ironic that this knowledge and reality I crave for you to cling to is worse, because we somehow both know it is slipping from your hands. Then I have to join in, pretend I don’t notice you noticing that you are no longer you. Don’t see the confusion, instead I turn it into my confusion to make you feel better and hope you aren’t aware that is my aim. Because that would be worse still. It doesn’t matter now; ten minutes has passed and I get another chance to better deal with it as the conversation has begun again. Who sent the letter?

vascular dementia brain
Credit: Alzheimers Association

“It has come a long way – from Halifax” you say.

Who sent the letter?

“This if from a charity, nan.”

“But what about this one?”

“That is a card from your son.”

“No, I don’t know who that is from, I think it’s from one of the neighbours.”

“It was your son saying he loves you nan.” I try

“No, because he doesn’t live near Halifax, it must be for someone else.”

“it’s written from your son, look how nice the words are inside.”

“it’s very strange.”

“Nan let’s have a cup of tea.”

Who sent the letter?

You feel like a burden because today you seem to know how much is lost. But you could never be a burden on me. And as your memories of sunny days fade, and you don’t recall loving me at all, I will paint them brighter. As the thief moves about taking everything you were and are, I will move faster still, replacing and reminding you how much you mean to us all. In this deepening darkness the light of your love and kindness will illuminate forever more.

We will always love you.

Last-Minute Beauty Stocking Fillers For Under £40

Hey Lovelies!

Well, it’s just over a week until Santa tackles the chimney (excuse me while I nip outside to scream in sheer panic). If like me, you’ve almost run out of cash and at present the stockings don’t exactly look brimming, read on. Here are some amazing beauty stocking filler gifts (at such a good price you can even buy 2 of each and keep one for yourself). #Hohoho!

1.Benefit Benetint Lip And Cheek COlor, £21.67 (Saving £3.83 Online Only), boots.com

For beauty lovers of all ages, check out this amazing stocking filler gift. Whether the colour in your lips is beginning to fade and you want to inject a boost of beautiful colour for Christmas or are simply after a key colour trend to see you through party season, Benefit’s Benetint is the perfect answer.

My advice – don’t think of this as a lipstick per se when applying to your lips. When I first tried this I simply brushed it on – big mistake. What you need to actually do is brush a few drops on and blend, repeating the process until you achieve the desired colour. The results are a gorgeous rosy glow that truly lasts. LOVE!

2.L’Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara, £11.99, Superdrug

Do you know someone who loves the extra-long lash look? Instead of buying more falsies (that are bound to hang off by their third cocktail) why not treat them to the next best thing? L’Oreal’s Double Extension Mascara offers a two-step system comprising of a conditioning base coat  (loaded with Ceramide R and containing fibres), of which ensures a luscious lengthening effect. The other side gives your lashes that much sought-after deep colour. This is one of my favourite mascaras – no clumping, smudging or mess – just stunning lashes!

3.Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray Duo Gift Set, £36 (Worth £48), feelunique.com

If you read my recent article on the best setting sprays, you will know Urban Decay is one of my most treasured brands.  Their innovative formula combines Proprietary Temperature Control Technology that will prevent your makeup (and you) from going into meltdown mode. This super long-lasting spray means that you can stop worrying about the whether or not your makeup still looks amazing (then going to the bathroom, looking aghast at your reflection and spending the following 20 minutes trying to work out if the hot guy who smiled at you might actually have been smiling for the wrong reason). With Urban Decay’s magic All Nighter you can simply get on with enjoying the evening and know that everyone will be smiling at you for the right reasons!

Have an amazing Christmas! xx

This party season we all want makeup that hides imperfections, blurs away pores, doesn’t emphasise every little line and stays on longer than the taxi ride to the event, right? Could such a magical product exist? The answer is yes – and the good news is we don’t need a fairy God mother – we just need some great info. Make sure you remain stunning all evening by equipping yourself with the best finishing powders around. Here are some truly exceptional finishing powders that actually deliver outstanding results. Read on:

1.For Diminishing Shine And Brightening Skin: Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish, £34, www.houseoffraser.co.uk

Should you be searching for a finishing powder that provides a little bit of extra coverage, opt for the Flawless Finish by Charlotte Tilbury. This super-luxurious powder offers some seriously seamless application and keeps your complexion appearing blemish and shine-free (HUGE plus). Combined are soft-focus micro powders and light-reflecting ingredients. The result is a gorgeous matte finish (but not too much) on seemingly flawless skin. The best bit – it will last longer than Cinderella’s pumpkin coach (phew, as there is no way we want to be checking out at midnight, right?).

The majority of us want a no-filter-needed complexion without it looking so thick you could blend in with the travelling circus. Let’s be honest, the overdone look is never great. Although a tad pricey, La Mer’s Pressed Powder should be considered an investment and for me, it’s totally worth it (Too. Many. Pores). Non-cakey, lightweight and great coverage – La Mer achieves a youthful matte finish whilst greatly reducing the appearance of unsightly pores. Thank God it’s Christmas.

3.For Creating Perfect Selfies: Wunder2 Perfect Selfie HD Photo Finishing Powder, £19.95, www.wunder2.co.uk

There’s no need to Photoshop your selfies when you have this little gem in your bag. The Wunder2 Perfect Selfie powder is a translucent product of which combines a blend of high -performance perfecting powders that blur away imperfections, creating a beautiful, soft-focus finish (without caking). After hearing so many people rave about this product I was literally tripping over myself to try it – and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

For me, setting powders tend to cake and I prefer to have a great setting spray and finishing powder instead. Hourglass is pretty genius as they consider how much different light impacts our look. Hourglass offer products that work the various lighting situations. Providing 6 shades that mimic 6 light sources (from harsh mornings to candlelight), their innovative formula contains ultra-fine pearl particles that effectively manipulate and filters light, whilst eliminating any evidence of imperfections. This finishing powder is like having my own secret super-power On My Face!

Fellow curly haired people, this super-gentle and gel-like mask is incredible for conditioning and detangling your locks, so they resemble beautiful bouncy curls (rather than a frizzy scarecrow-like mess). Ideally, leave the mask on for 10 minutes to allow it’s extra strengthening powers to take full effect and enjoy!

Best Post-Party Hacks To Look As If You’ve Actually Had Some Sleep

Finally, party season is here – which means dancing, fun…and a lack of sleep. Make sure you look as fresh as a daisy with the best makeup hacks. These tips will ensure you look like you have actually slept more than 4 hours (but sadly, they won’t help you function any better – multiple strong coffees until you can get to your bed will deal with this).

1.Highlighter

charlotte tilbury beauty wand
Credit: charlottetilbury.com

Apply your highlighter generously around the eye area, paying particular attention to the inner and outer corners of the eyes, and upper brow bone too. Furthermore, add a little to the area at the outer side of your eye to give a lifted effect. I love Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Beauty Wand, £27, www.charlottetilbury.com

2.Curl Those Lashes

A top trick for opening up the eyes instantly is to use an eyelash curler. This works miracles.

3.De-Puff The Bags

Eye bags the size of hammocks are kind of a giveaway to your previous night’s antics. Avoid the comments/looks/questions by quickly erasing the bags, dark circles and puffy ‘I haven’t slept in a week’ look. The best product I know of for a quick fix after a late night is Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask, £60 (Pack of 12), www.johnlewis.com

shiseido eye masks
Credit: johnlewis.com

Once you try these under-eye masks they will become your post-party skin saviour. Drenched in a retinol-based formula, these patches (allegedly loved by Kim Kardashian) instantly plump the skin, erasing any evidence of dryness and lines (temporarily of course – but long enough to get through your day shift)).

4.Colour Corrector And Hydrating Concealer

nars radiant concealer
Credit: feelunique.com

Firstly, address any dark circles with a colour corrector and then apply your concealer – but make sure it is a hydrating concealer. An ordinary concealer may make the situation worse as it can cause a cakey effect so close to the eye area, thus emphasizing any bags/lines instead. We don’t want that, so opt for a good product such as Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, £24, www.feelunique.com

5.Illuminate

Add a drop of illuminator to your foundation to brighten your overall look, detracting from tired skin. Iconic London’s Illuminator is totally dreamy, £32.99, www.cultbeauty.co.uk

6.Neutral Shades And Eye Drops

When you are absolutely shattered it is best to stick to neutral eyeshadows and lips, so that you do not draw attention to any sleep-deprived imperfections. Lastly, don’t forget the eye drops – these are always a Godsend!

Happy partying people xx

Can LED Light Therapy Actually Turn Back The Clock?

Hey Lovelies!

Today I am sharing my knowledge of LED Light Therapy – the Hollywood craze that most celebs are currently pursuing.

As a beauty editor I am totally obsessed with products and treatments that actually deliver rejuvenation, diminishing lines and wrinkles and tightening the skin wherever possible, to achieve that much sought-after youthful appearance. Sadly, they don’t all work. It is my job to filter the good from the bad and share this with the world. Light therapies are supposed to be the latest rejuvenating trend that work little miracles and can be done in minutes. The questions on everyone’s’ lips: Does it really work; is it painful, and is it better than spending our hard-earned cash on Botox and fillers? Read on:

About LED Treatments:

light therapy at harvey nichs
Credit: harveynichols.com

LED treatments are referred to as blue light, red light and yellow. Blue light is mostly used for reducing acne and acne scars, red is the go-to anti-aging treatment and yellow is often used to optimise skin health. The chosen treatment will vary from short to long wavelengths and much depends on the individual’s needs. Harvey Nichols’ Light Salon offer bespoke LED facials of which you can review here.

How Does It Work?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode of which produces therapeutic wavelengths (long and short) of light energy. Once received by the dermal cells, it is converted into ATP (an essential component for cells to produce collagen and elastin). This is proven to be extremely effective, with the skin’s response acting as it would do in your twenties. The result is a plump and rejuvenation complexion (YAAASS)!

So, if you are sick of Botox not getting all of those pesky lines and wrinkles and paying through the nose for the 3-monthly disappointment, you should definitely consider giving this a treatment a chance. Furthermore, LED is a fantastic method for dealing with unsightly pores, to even skin tone and awaken dry and dull complexions.

How Long Does An LED Light Therapy Facial Take And Is It Obvious You Have Had it?

red light machine
Credit: skinsalonsolution.com

The bonus about this little star treatment is you cannot tell you have had anything done and you can be in and out within half an hour. LED light therapy gives your skin a warm sensation, but nothing else. Phew!

Now For The Downside… (Because There Had To Be One)

pound sign
Credit: wikipedia.org

It is usually advised for customers to repeat their treatment twice each week for 4-6 weeks. This works out to be a tad pricey (but in my view it’s totally worth it).  Treatment prices range from anywhere between £40-£300 (depending on their needs and choice of clinic).

For those with deeper lines, have enjoyed the sun a little too much or who have smoked for some considerable time, it will take longer to achieve good results but stick with it and you will be pleased.

More Upside…

Once you have had the course of treatments, you may only need one or two treatments each year to maintain results.

Are There Any Contraindications?

In short, no. This is one treatment that has no contraindications and it can be used on all skin types. However, as with any treatment (and particularly if you are using an at-home device) always follow the instructions.

Should I Invest In an At-Home Device?

light therapy lightstim
Credit: Amazon

If going to a salon for continued treatment seems a little daunting and costly, it may be worth considering investing in an at-home device. You should know that these will undoubtedly be weaker than the professional devices, but you can achieve good results (it will just take a little longer). The other point to make is that when opting for this treatment, to guarantee success, you must endeavour to include it within your daily skincare routine. The best devices I have come across is the LightStim priced at £159.99 at Amazon and the Omnilux Clear-U, priced at £347 at Amazon.

Have you had experience of LED light therapy and what do are your thoughts. Please leave your comments below. xx

No, Ingrown Hair, You May Not Have A Place On The Face

So, you think you have your list of skin concerns sussed – then out of the blue without any warning, the dreaded ingrown hair suddenly appears. What’s worse, there seems to be no getting rid of it without serious skin removal – it’s as if it has self-set in concrete! Well, if this rings a rather large bell, fear not; here are the best tips and product advice to ensure the unwanted guest is permanently removed from your face (or anywhere else). I love

1.Exfoliate

Screen Shot 2018-11-12 at 12.56.16

Look Fantastic

Clogged hair follicles may cause hairs to grow inwards/sideways (any way but the right way). To Prevent this from happening as well as removing the stubborn already established hair by simply exfoliating in a circular motion and on a regular basis. The best products to use will contain BHA (beta-hydroxy acid) or salicylic acid. Alternatively, a sugar scrub (with as little oil as possible to prevent clogging) can help. I love Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant £26, Look Fantastic.

2.Tease Out With Tweezers

Screen Shot 2018-11-12 at 13.01.32.png

Wikipedia

If you can see the hair near to the surface, try to carefully tease this out with a pair of tweezers, but always make sure they are sterilised.

3.Warm Water

Screen Shot 2018-11-12 at 13.04.25

Before hair removal soak a cloth in warm water and gently dampen the area you are about to treat.

4.Never Shave Eyebrow (or Any Other Are on Your Face)

There have been a few suggestions in the media about whether shaving areas on your face is a good idea. I cannot speak for everyone, but generally speaking unless you like stubble and ingrown hairs, avoid this one at all costs.

5.Ingrown Hair Preventative Products

Screen Shot 2018-11-12 at 13.10.41

Look Fantastic

Aside from exfoliating with a sugar scrub or products that contain BHA or salicylic acid, you can also aid in the prevention of these irksome hairs with specific ingrown hair treatments. There are many on the market but the best one I have come across is the Skin Doctors Hair More Hair Inhibitor Spray, (approximately £10 for 120ml). Buy here

Beat Those Autumn Blues: 6 Things That Make Me Smile

Hey Lovelies

I hope you are having a fantastic bank holiday. Looking outside the weather has suddenly (and might I add, very rudely) changed from incredible warm sunshine to a somewhat dismal view, letting me know that Autumn is very much on its way. Grrr! To beat those Autumn blues, I’d thought I’d share with you 6 things that make me smile.

1.My Pooch And My Great-Nan

my dog and my nan
Credit: tigerroomblog.com

She’s cute, she’s fluffy and she loves everyone to bits (unless they resemble a postman and then it’s a different story altogether). That’s the pooch, not my great-nan in case you were wondering. My great-nan is the kindest and loveliest woman in the world and you can’t help but smile when you see her.

2.My Children

Credit: tigerroomblog.com

Another birthday is looming. How am I this old already? Time, you are a ruthless thief! However, my daughter smiled and told me she’d bought me something amazing that she can’t wait to give me and my little boy announced that my Mac is lagging, and he intends to buy me a new one (so cute, and..if only)!

3.Caffeine

cup of coffee

It doesn’t matter how I source it (numerous coffees or Redbulls) caffeine always helps.

4.Chocolate

galaxy
Credit: tigerroomblog.com

Yes, yes, sugar is the work of the devil and all that. Whatever – nothing beats a bar of Galaxy. Before you ask, no your eyes do not deceive you – there is nothing left of this bar apart from the wrapper!

5.A Great Book

Credit: tigerroomblog.com

When it’s cold and dreary outside there’s nothing better that snuggling up in your blankets (with choc and coffee) and a good book. One of my fave reads of late is Keep Your Friends Close by Paula Daly.

6.Finding An Awesome Series to Binge-Watch

Credit: amazon.co.uk

When you think you’ve seen just about every decent series on offer and you are about to consider re-watching House for the umpteenth time, then you discover something undeniably awesome, like Person of Interest (and then find out there’s tons of series too). Could it get any better? Keep on coming rain, it’s fine! (If you haven’t got Netflix and want to watch this, buy at Amazon here

Top Tips To Avoid The Dreaded Hooded Eye Look

Hey Lovelies!

Today I thought I’d discuss an issue that affects many of us and is one of my daily annoyances – the hooded eye. I’m not sure when my eyelids decided to acquire this unappealing signature look, but I do know I do not want them (but not enough to consider surgery). Fortunately, there are a few things we can do to make them look wider and less hooded.

1.Use An Eye Shadow Primer

Credit: www.perriconemd.co.uk

As all of us with hooded eyes will know, eyeshadow creases are pretty much a given. Keep them at a minimum by firstly applying your eyeshadow primer. I love Perricone MD’s No EyeShadow, EyeShadow £29, www.perriconemd.co.uk

2.Think About Your Shades

Should you suffer from the dreaded hooded eyes, try to avoid darker eyeshadows. If you love deeper shades, apply them just above the crease and in the centre (making sure you go easy on the shadow, ensuring it doesn’t reach your brow bone).

3.Highlighter Is A Key Product

Credit: nudebynature.co.uk

This quick optical illusion trick will instantly widen the eyes. Take a highlighter stick at apply to the inner corners of your eyelids and also apply a little along your brow bone. Hey presto, big and beautiful peepers! nudebynature’s Touch of Glow Highlight Stick in Champagne (£18) is fab!

4.Forget The Liquid Eyeliner

www.feelunique.com

Liquid eyeliners often cause a hooded eye to look worse. If you simply can’t live without your liner, go for a kohl pencil, which will achieve a softer look, focusing on the outer corners of the eye (liner on the inner corners will make your eyes look like you haven’t slept properly) – and avoid liner on the lower lids as this can make the situation worse. For precise and easy application people with hooded eyelids should apply their liner with open eyes. You will be amazed at how much difference this actually makes! Try Rimmel’s Soft Kohl at Feel Unique (£2.99)

5.Invest In a Good EyeShadow Brush

Eyeshadow lines draw attention to a hooded eye, do buy a really good soft eyeshadow brush, gently sweeping across the eyelid to prevent those irksome lines and create a beautiful wide-eyed finish.

Take that hooded eyes!

Have you tried any of these tips? What do you think? Please leave your thoughts in the comment section below and have a lovely day people! xx

Hair Primers Guaranteed To Defy The Strongest Of Heatwaves

Hey Lovelies!

I hope you are all enjoying the continuing miracle that is this UK heatwave. Whilst the majority of us are slapping on extra primer in an effort to prevent our makeup melting down our faces (causing us to look like a waxwork reject), many of us still are not applying hair primer. In this weather we really need the hair primer.

The beauty Gods have bestowed upon us hair primers of which can treat a whole array of haircare needs. Primers thoroughly condition, hydrate and protect – ensuring your locks remain shiny and super soft whilst enjoying SAS-like protection against these extreme (but much-loved) sun rays. Say goodbye to dehydrated, frizzy and sun-damaged strands and hellloooo to gorgeousness. Check out the best:

 1.Bumble & Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil Primer, £21 (250ml), Bumble & Bumble

Screen Shot 2018-07-07 at 12.19.48

                Bumble & Bumble

Should you shudder at how suspiciously familiar a scarecrow’s straw hair looks, worry no more. Bumble & Bumble have your hair covered (in a rehydrating oil) so no more brittle, just beauty. Better yet, this ‘invisible’ spray is practically undetectable and ensures your locks are detangled, silky and effectively protected from UV damage. This product enables fast and easy styling, too.  #hairgoals!

2.L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Original Oil, £12.75 (100ml), look fantastic.com

There’s one thing we hate about the sun and that is it makes already frizz-prone hair that much worse. Put an end to those frizzy woes by applying a little L’Oréal, and you will be rocking a super-soft shine all day long. This incredible oil also heat protects for up to 230 degrees!

(suitable for all hair types)

 3.Kerastase Resistance Therapiste Serum, £22.90 (30ml), kerastase.co.uk

Screen Shot 2018-07-07 at 12.34.46

Credit: kerastase.co.uk

This awesome serum is the go-to choice for those with fairly damaged or thick and unruly hair. The Resistance Therapiste Serum basically covers all the usual requirements such as conditioning and hydrating, but also offers amino acids and an innovative FIBRA-KAP™ formula that repairs and restructures, whilst simultaneously providing maximum heat protection and minimising further breakage! Result.

As a beauty editor I have to test all of the latest beauty devices, so I thought I’d share with you the best at-home gadgets that truly are worth their weight in gold. Read on:

1.For Acne/Blemishes Try Tria Positively Clear Acne Clearing Blue Light, £179 (Was £199), www.triabeauty.co.uk

triabeauty

There’s no need to suffer from acne – this awesome device delivers acne-destroying blue light that targets pores and eradicates the bacteria lurking underneath the surface of the skin. Also combined is a cleanser and spot treatment to further address the problem. What’s so great about this product is that you know you are effectively treating the problem without causing irritation or hurting your skin with harsh chemicals used in other acne-reducing products.

2.For Cleansing Try The Foreo Luna 2, £169, wwwforeo.com

foreo.com

I absolutely love this device. The Foreo LUNA 2 doubles up as an outstanding cleanser and anti-aging tool in one. It’s brush head is 50% larger, thus achieving super-fast cleansing, and offers 8000 T-Sonic pulsations per minute. This amazing gadget makes quick work of ridding your skin of impurities, whilst simultaneously targeting and treating fine lines and wrinkles. There’s no messing about with the LUNA 2 – it delivers on its promise and you will notice a significant improvement in your skin (and the compliments you receive). Furthermore, one charge enables up to 450 uses, so there is very little faffing around.

3.For Hair Removal Try The SmoothSkin Muse, £319 Was £399), www.smoothskin.com

smoothskin.com

Known as the intelligent IPL for good reason – it works. I have to say this product goes far and beyond my expectations of any at-home IPL device. This Gold Winner of the Beauty Awards, 2017 is the answer to your hair removal woes. Fast, effective and virtually painless, the gadget makes light work of breaking the hair cycle and preventing regrowth so problematic stubble becomes a distant memory. Yay!

Are We Becoming So Politically Correct That No One Can Just ‘Be’ Anymore?

Are We All Becoming So Politically Correct That No One Can Just ‘Be” Anymore?

Hey lovelies!

both park gif
Credit: Giphy/comedycentral

I’m sure most of you will have noticed the soon to be released Oceans 8 movie starring 8 amazing female actors. Given the growing need for equality in the workplace, the rise of feminism and the acceptance for women to finally have a voice whereby they are heard (not just when its deemed fit), I totally get the reason behind the need for a female cast. However – I can’t help but feel somewhat robbed. The Oceans films literally were awesome: they starred all of my favourite male eye candy (i.e. Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Georgie boy). The movies were the epitome of pure coolness. The ladies were spoilt for choice, the guys could fantasize about men they would love to be, and the plot was entertaining throughout.

brad pitt
Credit/Giphy

Now, all of that has gone. I get that women should own a film, but make it a new one, a different one that doesn’t take away from the one set of movies that stood head and shoulders above the rest for all the right reasons. For me, we’ve just lost out massively by attempting to fix an equality issue through sacrificing film perfection. Instead of being obsessed with point scoring, why not simply make a different one totally unrelated to the iconic Oceans? I know I will probably get some stick – everyone’s got an opinion. But seriously when everyone is screaming for the world to change the best things in the name of feminism, or fear of being politically incorrect at what point do we stop and realise nothing is fun anymore?

I’m no psychic but I predict that by 2020 comedians will be struck off or imprisoned for being funny. No one is allowed to say anything, even in humour without an onslaught of abuse from people ready and waiting to be outraged for the slightest reason. Don’t get me wrong – there’s always been sad and bitter people on the lookout for a bandwagon they can hop on. But now social media platforms have not only given the opportunity for this to become an epidemic – but people are too scared not to take this mass hysteria on-board, enable it and give it a place in the world. And it seems the crazier insinuation and allegations are, the more people put their names to it and the louder it becomes.

12 monkeys brad pitt
Credit: Giphy

Just the other day some woman had nit-picked apart an innocent comment made on an advert and turned it into some kind of sexist abusive attack, posting this across the internet which then (of course) went viral. The internet has allowed this small town mentality from 200 years ago to become global. This is terrifying, and it just continues.

The days are serious because others are losing their shit over anything they can find to be insulted about. No one can joke, no one can make the movies they want, no one can write freely – does anyone else worry that we are all becoming a world of self-driving cars? Sure we all are heading for the same end destination, but do we really have to all become robots to be allowed to stay on the sodding road? Where life is becoming a real-life version of Huxley’s Brave New World, has our overwhelming and ever-growing panic of not being PC, driven out fun, personality and the ability to just ‘be’?
