8 Easy Tips For Fuller Lips

We have yearned for fuller, fatter lips since Angelina Jolie took the world by storm, and with the ever-growing investment in the lip fillers (although, not always achieving the best results) there seems no end to this obsessional trend dying down. Thankfully, we do not need to risk disfiguring our face to acquire an envy-worthy pout. Follow these little tips and you will be well on your way to posting a #nofilterpout on your Instagram feed. Hooray!

1.Invest In A Scrub

Credit: clinique.co.uk

Invest in a gentle yet thorough lip scrub to boost circulation, rid any dry skin, whilst smoothing and preparing your pout for a full plumpness we may have before only dreamt of achieving. Sugar scrubs are fabulous – I love Clinique’s Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm (£15.50). Combining a two-in-one treatment with a scrub on one side and balm on the other, in one handy little pot.

2.Nourish With A Balm

Apply a hydrating lip balm and allow this to soak in and work its circulation boosting and hydrating magic to take effect (usually about 6-7 minutes). Buy the Clinique Sweet Pot and you will have the second step well and truly covered.

3.Don’t Forget The Base

Credit: oxygenetix.com

A key trick to plumper lips is to firstly apply your foundation over your pout, creating the perfect base, of which also enhances their size. Furthermore, this allows your lipstick to remain intact and unbelievably smooth. Should you be looking for a new foundation, I recommend Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation, (£45). This foundation is renowned for it’s ability to act like a breathable second skin.

4.Optical Illusion

Many makeup artists swear by this tip and for good reason – it works. Simply dot a little highlighter to your cupid’s bow. This works to reflect light providing an immediately fuller result.

5.Lip Liners

charlotte tilbury.com

If you have particularly thin lips, the general advice is to stay well away from bold dark colours as this will have a detrimental effect. The same goes for liners. Choose instead, a colour that is one shade darker than your natural lip colour. I love Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Pink Venus Lip Liner, (£16).

6.Light-Reflecting Particles Are Key

Choose a lip gloss that contains light-reflecting particles which will in turn work like a dream to exaggerate the size of your lips. For more mature lips, detract from signs of feathering by applying gloss in the centre of the lips alone, avoiding the outer corners.

7.A little More Fake

Invest in a good lip plumping gloss to temporarily plump up your pout. If you are on a night out don’t forget to pop it in your clutch before you leave for the ball – btw, the magic will not last until midnight! I adore Transformulas Lip Volume, (£29.95).

8.Lipstick And More Liner

Screenshot 2017-12-28 08.53.33

Credit: maccosmetics.co.uk

Next add your lipstick. For further enhancement apply a little white liner in a vertical line down the centre of your lips, dab and blend in. Right now, I’m totally obsessed with Mac’s Matte Lipstick, Velvet Teddy, (£16.50).

Are You Using The Right Colour Corrector For Your Skin?

Hey Lovelies,

Choosing the right colour corrector can literally transform your look and makeup routine from one stress and stolen time to one so simple and smooth you will be kicking yourself for not checking this sooner. Check out the key colour correctors that address those pesky concerns – there’s no need for a fairy godmother when you have these products in your makeup bag!

1.The Dreaded Blemish

Screenshot 2017-12-20 16.51.36.png

Credit: nyxcosmetics.co.uk

Why does it seem like blemishes wait until you have some awesome event lined up, choosing then to terrorise your skin? Don’t allow blemishes to overthrow your world. A green colour corrector will effectively neutralise the discolouration and redness of blemishes.  When choosing a green corrector, remember to pick a shade that suits your skin tone. I love Nyx Cosmetics Concealer Jar (£6) Once you have applied the corrector, cover with your chosen concealer.

2.Good Riddance Dark Circles

This time of year, in particular, the appearance of dark circles is as often as spam PPI phone calls (well, almost). Peeps, it’s time to phase them out for good. Once your usual skincare products (i.e. cleanser, toner, moisturiser and brightening eye cream) is on, apply the colour corrector that suits your skin tone: For fair skin choose pink. (I love Sephora’s Bright Future Color Corrector, $14).

For light to medium skin, choose peach.

For darker skin tones, choose yellow.

For deep skin tones, choose red.

3.Brighten Up With Purple

Credit: Superdrug

This shade will cancel out any yellow undertones and is a genius product for adding instantaneous luminosity to otherwise dull-looking skin. I love NIP+FAB Colour Corrector in Lavender (£8.91, Superdrug).

4.Hyper-Pigmentation – What’s That?

Screenshot 2017-12-20 17.48.45

Credit: lauramercier

Do not let this little horror dictate your life. There are so many fabulous products that can swiftly correct any last trace of hyper-pigmentation and dark spots in seconds. Opt for an orange shade to neutralise brown spots. My hero product is Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage, $35. #beautifulskin

Eye Glitter That Actually Stays Put

Glitter remains a massive trend and now the festive season is well and truly upon us, a glitter product in our makeup bag is an absolute must. However, wearing glitter ought to come with a warning – it’s pretty difficult to apply without getting it everywhere and too much – well, we know how that goes. Here are my favourite glitter products to ensure you look sparkling perfection, in no time at all and with minimum mess.

1.Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner, £15, Urban Decay

Ok, if you are a newcomer to the shimmer and require an easy-to-use glitter taster, this product is just the kitty. Offering absolute precision when applying, the glitter will quickly dry, thus preventing any excess from spreading elsewhere. Furthermore, it features carrot, cucumber and peach extract to ensure optimal conditioning and smoothing results. Metallics are big news right now, making the Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner a must-have item. For extra pizazz why not add a little over the upper lids, too?

2.Nyx Professional Makeup #Glittergoals Kit, £15, nyxcosmetics.co.uk

Nyx never ceases to please, and upon discovering this awesome #Glittergoals Kit, I am officially in love with this brand! This little gem of a kit will keep you looking like sparkling sensation. Better yet, this wonder kit combines 3 shades of Face & Body glitter and a travel-sized tube of vitamin E Glitter Primer that ensures your glitter is completely set and stays put all night. The Kit 3 includes: new shades Pink, Purple and Luna.

3.Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow Diamond Dust, £23, stila.co.uk

I know, I know – another glitter metallic product – but you can’t have too many, right? This gorgeous find is a liquid glitter metallic eyeshadow and it seriously kicks ass. Including a flat applicator makes the application of this liquid eyeshadow a total breeze. The lightweight eyeshadow offers seamless results and with minimal drying time or any fallout. Yay!

This shadow is also available in Diamond Dust, Sheer Silver and Multicolour.

4.Nars Cosmetics Iskander Eye Paint, £18.50 narscosmetics.com

Create a super-easy, yet high-impact finish with the incredible Nars Eye Paint. Testing this paint was a total pleasure – the gel is rich, super-soft and weightless, enabling a fast and smooth application, of which dries so quickly that every last shimmery particle will last until you are ready to go to bed.

A word of warning – although the night undoubtedly will be fun and upon returning home the last thing you will want to do is start removing your makeup – make the effort to do so, or you will be spotting glitter and cursing yourself for days to come.

Get your liner right and everything else will fall into place. How To Deal With Unwanted Family Situations At Christmas

It’s that time of year again – decorations, chocolate, mulled wine, presents…oh, and the joys of the not-so-festive family members. Sure, some of you may be thinking, ‘What a bitch!” But’s let’s get real about this – if you are honest, there will inevitably be at least one person in the vicinity of your extended family that just…y’know. If you are sat there thinking there’s really no one in your family circle you’d prefer Focker style ‘out’ then you don’t know how lucky you are! Damn!

For the rest of us, here’s a little advice to help you deal with the inevitable situation:

Over the years I’ve tried pretty much every angle of dealing with the yearly HELL – alcohol, avoidance, humour, ridicule, sweat and tears. So, without much ado here are my tips for dealing with the usual suspects:

1.The Sibling.

giphy1

Credit: Giphy

Now, let’s get one thing straight – family is family, and you can’t choose them. Do try to overcome issues, for if you do, you will be a solid rock to one another through the good times and bad. However, sometimes reality just sucks. Your brothers or sisters may not be very nice people and there’s not a hell of a lot you can do to change that. If making an effort results in relentless backstabbing, if you don’t feel they consider or treat you any better than if you were a piece of crap, my advice is to walk away.

giphy3

Giphy

Relentlessly making an effort year upon year, of which always ends in stress does not make you altruistic – it makes you sadistic! Arrange times to see the nice family members. After all, isn’t life about keeping misery at a minimum? Christmas day is but one day of the year, so make arrangements to avoid all unnecessary pain and don’t feel guilty.

2.The Parents-in-law and Step-Parents

giphy2

Giphy

Hmm, tricky one. Not much you can do in this situation except make sure you have alcohol, but not too much, and ensure you have somewhere to go for a breather (nipping out to see another family member/friend). Organise a time slot and explain you would love the entire Christmas holiday with them but your duty calls to do the rounds amongst other family members. If they are particularly mean, have a quiet word with your S.O and let him/her deal with the problem. Should they be unbearable this year, make a note and book a holiday abroad in time for next Christmas!

Should the area of concern be a particularly cruel step-parent, you may find they have already thought ahead and omitted you from their Christmas plans. Problem sorted.

3.Husband/Wife/S. O

giphy4

Giphy

Have you heard the phrase “You made your bed, so lie in it.”? I know, it’s a little harsh. However, if things are bad, take some time to see if you are causing some of the issues and what you can change about yourself to make the Christmas period smoother. Then, do the same for him and have a pre-Christmas chat. A calm conversation devoid of accusations, but brimming with ‘I feel’ and solutions. Then stick to them, don’t over-drink, try to put things aside and simply enjoy Christmas for what it is. Most importantly do not over think and do not stress out. Should you feel you are biting craters in your lip, get some space for an hour and chill.

#dealwiththeissue

Come January, if things are still this bleak it’s time to revaluate your status IRL!
