10 Tips For Achieving A Perfect Salon-Worthy Blow-Dry At Home

Hey Lovelies!

Don’t get me wrong – there’s nothing like a visit to the hair salon for boosting your confidence. However, for a long time I would leave the hair salon a little grieved that I was unable to achieve that perfect and seemingly effortless blow-dry at home. A few years later (after talking to several professionals and some research) I can now acquire that gorgeous blow-dry without a visit to the salon. Here are the best tips to ensure you can get that salon-worthy blow-dry without having to part with your cash or brave the wintery trek across town.

1.Invest In a Good Hairdryer

IMG_0578

The choice of hairdryers is vast, but there are a few key points to remember when in search of the perfect blow-dry:

Ionic technology – gives anti-static effect and seals cuticles, creating shine.

Ceramic tourmaline – Seals in moisture and anti-static effect.

Narrow nozzles – To control heat and airflow direction (so important when creating a salon-worthy finish).

These points make all the difference. I discovered the LanaiBlo – it ticks all the boxes and creates the perfect blow-dry. Although a little pricey at £99, this product is well worth the investment. Once you think of all the money you can save visiting the salon, the LanaiBlo is a true find!

2.Shampoo and Conditioner

www.labelm.com

Screenshot 2018-02-05 14.39.09Choose a volumising shampoo and conditioner to help boost your locks and enhance shape. I’ve said it before and I will say it again – Label.m’s Thickening Shampoo (£14.25) and Conditioner are truly incredible as they totally boost volume whilst adding a shimmering luminosity to your locks. Result!

3.Always Prepare

Before you even look at a hair dryer apply a hair mask. As we all know – heat damages hair and if your locks are looking a little worse for wear it won’t look better following a blast of heat without the proper protection. I love Philip Kingsley’s Coconut Breeze Elasticizer. This works as a great pre-shampoo treatment or overnight mask. Work through mid-length to the ends and leave on for a good 15 minutes before rinsing out. The added bonus to this is by applying a mask you will actually decrease the length of drying time considerably. Yay – no arm ache!

4.Use A Good Heat Protection Spray.

Should you want the salon-perfect results you have to follow protocol – it’s no good skipping the odd rule – those few moments you spared aren’t worth the split ends that are bound to ensue.

5.Hair Oil

Screenshot 2018-02-05 15.02.30

Hair oils are an awesome invention and I literally couldn’t be without mine as split ends and frizz are instantly concealed. A good tip is to apply the oil both before and after you blow-dry. This will guarantee soft and shiny hair to die for. OGX Renewing Moroccan Oil (£6.99)is a firm favourite – but don’t overdo it – a little goes a long way.

6.Dry Shampoo or Styling Spray

Add a little of this (evenly and over your T-zone) to give fine hair some added bounce and thickness.

7.Roots Go First

Always blow-dry the roots of your hair before anywhere else (especially if you have fine or thinning hair). This will keep the volume for longer.

8.Now For The Blow-Dry

Blow-dry the crown by keeping your brush as close as possible to the roots as you dry, pulling your hair gently upwards to create a gorgeous lift.

Dry the hair in sections, from root to tip, making sure your locks are thoroughly dry.

9.Don’t Overdo The Hairspray

Choose a lightweight hairspray and never overdo the application.

10.Rejoice

Finally, take a look in the mirror and smile!

6 Tips for Getting The Most Out Of Your Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo has long since been considered a beauty life saver. Following a heavy clubbing session and having minimal time before the working day begins, a holiday break at the campsite with your fella (and you discover the bathroom isn’t fit for rats), or you are just having a what-the-hell-I-don’t-care week. Whatever the reason, dry shampoo is on hand to save the day and your dignity.

Results, however, are not always as we’d like them. Check out these few tips to get the most out of your dry shampoo.

1.Choose The Right Dry Shampoo For Your Hair

giphy

Some key points to remember when buying your dry shampoo:

Blondes: Powdery dry shampoos can cover darker roots.

Darker Hair Types: Choose invisible or light-tinted dry shampoos to prohibit a chalky effect showing up.

2.Prevention Not Cure

Kill the grease before it happens by applying your dry shampoo post-wash. Doing this will prohibit the build-up of grease for longer.

Technique

Remember to apply your shampoo evenly, spraying from the same distance as you would use your hairdryer (approximately 8-10 inches from your head), from the parting and downwards. Massage into the scalp and ensure all of the product is absorbed.

4.Use The Right Brush

Try using a slim brush with tourmaline bristles to aid in effective blending.

5.Blend and Build

Blending in is key to getting optimal results – and NEVER use too much product. Your hair will enjoy added volume from the dry shampoo, so once used keep it down rather than tying it up and risking a grease reveal!

6.When The Grease Has Already Got You…

Should you wake up late and discover the dreaded grease has already attacked, grab your dry shampoo and spray your T-section (the top parting and along the hairline) and spraying 8-10 inches from your hair. This area is the greasiest so this is where you need to focus.

Make these few changes and your dry shampoo will be your star product! #lifegoals

Have you got a fave dry shampoo? Please let me know your thoughts.

In the meantime, have a happy Friday guys xx

How To Minimise And Hide Split Ends

Hey Lovelies.

We all know only too well what its like to look in the mirror each day to a scarecrow head gawking back at you. Split ends truly are a nightmare! Should your hairdresser be booked up for the next month and split ends are taking over your head like something from The Strain, do not panic: here are some quick fixes to keep them well-hid until you reach the sanctuary of the hair salon.

1.Ditch The Elastic

Having little time in the morning and opting for a ponytail may seem like a good idea – but not if you are using elastic bands. These are the key offenders for causing frayed hair. To avoid breakage, make sure you use soft and stretchy fabric bands or Scunci hair tools.

2.Cut Down Heat

giphy18

Its better to cut down on use of heat styling, but if you are like me and simply cannot go without the straighteners or tongs, opt for heated tools with thermal heat protection to keep damage to a minimum.

3.Choose Carefully

giphy19

Are you using the right brush for your hair type? This is such an important thing to remember as the wrong brush can do endless hair harm. Should your hair be weak choose a soft bristle brush, and always, ALWAYS brush softly.

4.Shampoo and Conditioner

Again, take some time in researching and buying the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type and condition. Should your locks be in a sorry state (again, like mine at present) invest in a good leave in conditioner such as Label.m’s Leave-in Conditioner, (Diamond Dust range) £18.25.

5.Towel Dry

I know, this is not always possible when we have overslept and have to leave the house, like twenty minutes ago!. However, try to towel dry where possible. Your hair will thank you.

7.Serums/Oil

Credit: aesop.com

Perfect for sealing up those pesky split ends, hero hair serums and oils are an actual God send. Try Aesop’s Shine.

8.Hair Mask

Should your locks be in need of a little extra TLC, use an overnight hair mask. This will provide vital nourishment so that your hair feels thoroughly rejuvenated by the morning. Hooray!

Why The Hell Is My Hair Falling Out? Common And Uncommon Reasons

It was 6 weeks ago, following a bath when I experienced the horror of my hair falling out – since then, my hair has continually fallen out, to the point where I have lost 50% of my locks. A few months ago, I had long hair; now it is cut into a short bob in an effort to minimize the embarrassment factor and stimulate new growth.

Your hair loss can be triggered 3 months after the underlying cause occurred. For me, the evil culprit was a hair dye. However, for many women, the cause remains an evil mystery.

Should this story sound familiar, do not despair. Simply play detective and find out the (ahem, root cause). The majority of hair loss cases can be rectified. Tackle this problem head on by taking a look at some common and uncommon possible reasons.

1.Stress

giphy4

Giphy.com

A little stress is healthy, but a constant stress headache can trigger an array of problems, including hair loss. Solve the problem causing you stress (if it happens to be man-related, bin the boyfriend). Do whatever you need to in order to get happy and stress-free once more. Nothing is worth losing your hair over!

2.Hormones

giphy5

Giphy

Pregnancy, the menopause, the pill and hormonal imbalances can all trigger hair loss. If you think this may be the issue, visit the doctor asap.

3.Lack of Protein

A lack of protein (fish, eggs, cheese) can result in hair loss. Luckily, as with stress and hormones, this reason is often one from which you can recover. Change your diet and after a few months you should notice a change.

4.Male and Female-Pattern Baldness

giphy6

Giphy

Unfortunately, this may be the reason for your hair loss, particularly if it runs in the family. The good news is that there are options available. Visit a trichologist who will point you in the right direction.

5.Hypothyroidism

Hormones are frequently to blame for hair loss, and the case of an underactive thyroid is no different. This disorder disrupts the flow of hormones, thus resulting in hair loss. A doctor will prescribe you with suitable medication which should in turn treat the hair loss.

6.Vitamin Overload

1200px-B_vitamin_supplement_tablets

Wikipedia.org

Often, we are so paranoid about getting the right amount of vitamin, that we can actually take too much. An overload of vitamin A can trigger hair loss. Happily, this is easily solved.

7.Vitamin Deficiency

Likewise, too little vitamin B or iron can cause hair loss.

Does anyone else have a similar story? I would love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment below xx

6 Tips To Help Your Hair Grow

We all crave for those Disney Princess-esque hair, but the reality is that colouring and everyday heat styling wreaks havoc, making the chances of thick lustrous locks about as real as winning £168 million on the lottery. Fortunately, there are a few things we can all do to help our hair grow that little bit faster, and look that much better. Read on:

1.Condition

giphy

Giphy.com

Yes, you may well be running late for that date, or just not feeling energised enough to give a rat’s ass if you skip the conditioner. Think again, because unless you condition each time you shampoo, your hair will end up looking, well, like a rat’s ass – and believe me, come tomorrow you will care.  Find the right conditioner for your hair type and make sure you invest in a good brand. Conditioner replaces lipids and proteins, will seal your strands and prohibit further breakage.

2.Regularly Trim

giphy1

Putting off that trip to the hairdresser’s because you have almost reached that length, will not be beneficial. Regular trims will keep those pesky split ends in check, ensuring your hair stays in optimal health and thus will grow that little bit faster.

3.Use A Hair Mask

Take the time each week to apply a good hair mask or hair oil treatment. Kerastase offers fabulous results, however if you don’t want to invest in a product, DIY masks such as coconut oil, honey and virgin olive oil provide an incredible alternative.

4.Lay Off The Heat

giphy2

I’m sorry to say that no matter how much heat protection you apply, heat styling will damage the hair. Should your hair be particularly brittle, take it easy on these tools.

5.Cold Water (Yowch)

Sounds grim, (especially as the winter months draw in) but rinsing your hair with a cold blast of water will seal the hair and lock in moisture. You will be amazed at how much difference this little hair hack makes.

6.Brush Carefully

Don’t ever attack your hair with your brush. Not only should you take time to find a brush to suit your hair type and condition, but you should ensure you are treating your hair with the extra TLC it requires. Doing this prevents breakage, reduces damage to the scalp and will ultimately support faster hair growth. Yay!

Discover These Top Tips For Remaining Flake-Free

Sick and tired of the unoriginal yet highly embarrassing, “Is it snowing?’ jokes? IF your scalp has decided to turn rogue and destroy your outfit with a seemingly endless flurry of white flakes, don’t just brush them off and tell yourself to ignore the situation; it’s time to take control. No, you do not need to run out and bulk buy Head and Shoulders – check out these amazing dandruff diminishing tips and very soon your scalp (and outfit) will be happy again.

1.Coconut Oil

Coconut_and_oil copy

Wikipedia.org

Brimming with all-important anti-fungal properties, coconut oil probably is one of the best dandruff destroying products around. All you need to do is mix a little coconut oil with some lemon juice (half the amount of lemon juice to coconut oil). Simply massage the wonder potion into your scalp, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse well. This process can be repeated twice weekly until you are satisfied all evidence of dandruff is gone. Hooray!

2.White Vinegar

This is super-effective in combatting the pesky flaking situation. Like coconut oil, it is loaded with anti-fungal properties, and will work like a dream to rid the scalp of dandruff whilst offering natural cleansing. Furthermore, you will discover your hair is unbelievably soft and shiny! To make: 3 parts water, 2 parts white vinegar and 1 part olive oil, and mix. Apply to your scalp and rinse off after 15 minutes. Once again, this treatment should be repeated twice per week until the problem has gone, forever!

3.Baking Soda

aid2599927-v4-728px-Store-Baking-Soda-Step-2 copy

You may be surprised to find that baking soda isn’t just great in cooking – it actually provides an array of benefits and will treat a multitude of sins. If you are in any doubt, just ask your great-gran. In the case of dandruff or oily hair, baking soda will soak up excess sebum and maintain pH balance of your scalp; prohibits the growth of fungus; work as a mild exfoliator, and thwarts the onset of dandruff. Apply a small amount onto wet hair, rubbing into the scalp. After a few minutes, rinse hair well, remembering not to shampoo your hair for the rest of the day. This treatment should only be used once per week – however this should be all you need. Next week the only thing you will be brushing off are a stream of compliments (much better problems to have).
