5 Tips For Flawless Foundation

Getting your foundation right can feel like a daunting task. To start with, there’s so many products out there and then it’s a seemingly never-ending mission to find the perfect one for your particular skin tone and type. During my years as beauty editor I have discovered some top tips that make this task as easy as putting on your shoes.

1.Define Your Skin Type

Basically, most people fall in to one of the following skin types: dry, combination and oily.

2.Think About Your Skin Colour

a gif of hedrick saying boom
Giphy

When you are buying your foundation, test a few products against your skin (and if at all possible, try to view it outside). You want the colour that best fits your own complexion, the one that soaks seamlessly into your skin as if it is invisible. You should not buy a different shade in an effort to boost or change you colour. That is what a bronzer is for.

3.Decide On Your Coverage

Before you buy, you need to think about how much coverage you want to get out of your foundation and how easy it is to build up.

4.Choose Your Foundation

Once you have decided your skin tone, type and how much coverage you want, you are ready to choose your foundation. Should you have aging or dry skin, opt for a blurring or hydrating product. I love Givenchy’s Blurring Foundation Teint Couture Balm (£31, Givenchy). Should you have combination skin, then Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup is just the ticket. For Oily skin types, opt for Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation, £32 (30ml).

5.Apply A Primer

Don’t go to all this trouble and then forget the primer! Your primer will help to reduce the appearance of imperfections and pores, providing you with a good base for your foundation. I love Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer, £26, www.smashbox.co.uk

Top Tips To Avoid The Dreaded Hooded Eye Look

Hey Lovelies!

Today I thought I’d discuss an issue that affects many of us and is one of my daily annoyances – the hooded eye. I’m not sure when my eyelids decided to acquire this unappealing signature look, but I do know I do not want them (but not enough to consider surgery). Fortunately, there are a few things we can do to make them look wider and less hooded.

1.Use An Eye Shadow Primer

Credit: www.perriconemd.co.uk

As all of us with hooded eyes will know, eyeshadow creases are pretty much a given. Keep them at a minimum by firstly applying your eyeshadow primer. I love Perricone MD’s No EyeShadow, EyeShadow £29, www.perriconemd.co.uk

2.Think About Your Shades

Should you suffer from the dreaded hooded eyes, try to avoid darker eyeshadows. If you love deeper shades, apply them just above the crease and in the centre (making sure you go easy on the shadow, ensuring it doesn’t reach your brow bone).

3.Highlighter Is A Key Product

Credit: nudebynature.co.uk

This quick optical illusion trick will instantly widen the eyes. Take a highlighter stick at apply to the inner corners of your eyelids and also apply a little along your brow bone. Hey presto, big and beautiful peepers! nudebynature’s Touch of Glow Highlight Stick in Champagne (£18) is fab!

4.Forget The Liquid Eyeliner

www.feelunique.com

Liquid eyeliners often cause a hooded eye to look worse. If you simply can’t live without your liner, go for a kohl pencil, which will achieve a softer look, focusing on the outer corners of the eye (liner on the inner corners will make your eyes look like you haven’t slept properly) – and avoid liner on the lower lids as this can make the situation worse. For precise and easy application people with hooded eyelids should apply their liner with open eyes. You will be amazed at how much difference this actually makes! Try Rimmel’s Soft Kohl at Feel Unique (£2.99)

5.Invest In a Good EyeShadow Brush

Eyeshadow lines draw attention to a hooded eye, do buy a really good soft eyeshadow brush, gently sweeping across the eyelid to prevent those irksome lines and create a beautiful wide-eyed finish.

Take that hooded eyes!

Have you tried any of these tips? What do you think? Please leave your thoughts in the comment section below and have a lovely day people! xx

Hair Primers Guaranteed To Defy The Strongest Of Heatwaves

Hey Lovelies!

I hope you are all enjoying the continuing miracle that is this UK heatwave. Whilst the majority of us are slapping on extra primer in an effort to prevent our makeup melting down our faces (causing us to look like a waxwork reject), many of us still are not applying hair primer. In this weather we really need the hair primer.

The beauty Gods have bestowed upon us hair primers of which can treat a whole array of haircare needs. Primers thoroughly condition, hydrate and protect – ensuring your locks remain shiny and super soft whilst enjoying SAS-like protection against these extreme (but much-loved) sun rays. Say goodbye to dehydrated, frizzy and sun-damaged strands and hellloooo to gorgeousness. Check out the best:

(suitable for all hair types)
