5 Tips For Ensuring Your Makeup Stays Put In This Heatwave

Hey Lovelies!

Hot enough for you? We have embarked upon a heatwave that puts the UK well and truly in a siesta-worthy situation (about time, I say). But how do we ensure our makeup remains intact, so we stay looking incredible this summer? No, people we are not trying out at Alice Cooper impersonation auditions!  Check out these 5 top tips to keep our hard-earned flawless makeup looking awesome.

1.Preparation is Key

MAC prep+ Prime skin

Okay, after applying a hydrating moisturiser and SPF, it is vital to prep your skin with a primer that is perfect for both your skin type and the weather conditions. Look for a product that is long-lasting, sweat and waterproof. For info on this you can read my Best Primers For Every Skin Type here. I love Mac’s Prep+Prime. £23 (Look Fantastic).

Water-Based Foundation

Oil-based foundations and extreme sweating do not mix. Therefore, it is better to opt for a light and water-based foundation, whilst we are in heat that could win in a Pepsi challenge with the temperature of Egypt right now. A great one is Lancôme’s Teint Miracle Foundation SPF 15, £33.50, John Lewis. The formula feels lightweight and yet luxurious, is long wear with a matte finish and provides a super-boost of hydration your skin will appreciate. Awesome!

If you are planning on going for a dip, Urban Decay’s new Waterproof Foundation is a dream £22, Urban Decay. Lightweight, long-lasting and available in 50 shades. Urban Decay – you rock!

3.Don’t Overdo Products

Layering is not a great idea during the el scorchio weeks. Keep your makeup routine light and simple. Too much and it won’t end well. Believe me! A little dab of mineral-based powder once you have applied your foundation will go a long way.

4.Mascaras and Eyeliners

Diorshow waterproof mascara

Steer clear from eyeliners if at all possible. When it comes to mascaras opt for a good waterproof one like Diorshow Waterproof Mascara £28, Dior. This mascara speaks volumes (pardon the pun). No clumping, no smudging just a luscious look that stays put even when droplets of sweat are forming on your forehead – 39 degrees – bring it on!

5.Setting Sprays

urban decay all nighter setting spray

Choose a good setting spray that will guarantee your makeup is in the same place as when you applied it (rather than an inch lower on your face). I love Urban Decay’s All Nighter, £24, Look Fantastic.

Have you tried any of these products and what are your thoughts?

Have a great day tomorrow and keep cool. Xx

4 Of The Best Concealers That Actually Deliver

Hey Lovelies!

I don’t know about you but I’m so tired of getting excited about trying new concealers only to discover they just don’t stand up to the job. We want concealers to do what they promise – conceal. We want concealers that make our skin look better – not cakey, older or patchy (even when we’ve spent more than long enough blending). I quite like some Rimmel products, but I found their “Hide The Blemish” concealer to be a huge fail.

Check out the best concealers around (and the best prices) that actually deliver true coverage and will improve your appearance!

1.Max Factor Pan Stik, £7.18, www.amazon.co.uk

This has to be one of my all-time favourite concealers. It instantly provides superior, yet natural coverage for pretty much every skin concern. The lightweight formula blends easily and lasts as long as your foundation (unlike the useless twist pen stick concealers), it is excellent value for money. I always come back to this concealer (for good reason). #happydays.

2.Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer, £20.40 (Was £24), www.debenhams.com

With its light-diffusing capabilities to blur and combining an array of proven skin-nourishing ingredients, this formula ensures your complexion will be nothing short of radiant. Furthermore, it is available in almost every shade you can think of.

This is another concealer that ticks all the boxes. The Naked Skin Concealer provides coverage that is easily buildable, whilst guaranteeing a full and even coverage of which glides on seamlessly. Including incredible ingredients such as Japanese green tea (to diminish the appearance of lines), Matrixyl 3000 and Litchiderm (to enhance collagen production and protect), this concealer literally transforms the look of your skin. Yay!

4.MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, £18.50 (9ml), www.maccosmetics.co.uk

You didn’t think I could discuss great makeup without mentioning MAC, did you? Of course not. I hate concealers that (even when you use a setting spray) seem to either disappear completely, or stubbornly remain in unattractive vague patches on your face. Behold MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer. The lightweight product feels amazing, is lightweight whilst simultaneously achieving excellent coverage and has serious staying power. I love this!

Discover The Best Makeup Setting Sprays Of 2018

Hey Lovelies!

Today I’m sharing with you the best makeup setting sprays.

The festive season is in full swing and you’ve got back-to-back parties for the foreseeable, which means Instagram and social media are about to be flooded with pics. So, you want to look A-mazing? This year, it would be great to avoid any dodgy-looking pics taken just a few hours into the event, in which liner seems to have gone for a swim underneath your eyes (taking the smudged look to a whole new level) and any foundation has slipped from your face like you’ve been standing in a melting pot. Not a good look! This party season, we want serious staying power – but we don’t have to resort to the spray on plaster in the bathroom cabinet. Here are the best setting sprays that are incredible at ensuring your makeup remains flawless all evening.

1.E.L.F. Matte Magic Mist & Set, £5, www.elfcosmetics.co.uk

Credit: elf cosmetics.co.uk

As a huge fan of E.L.F. Cosmetics foundation and primer, I couldn’t wait to give their Magic Mist Setting Spray a try – it did not disappoint. Makeup acquires a gorgeous matte finish and stays firmly in place for a good 8 hours – which is unbelievable for me given that makeup seems to just evaporate to the point where it looks like I hadn’t even bothered applying any to begin with. Major result!

2.Kat Von D Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist, £17, www.debenhams.com

Being a newbie to Kat Von D products I was keen to try out this setting spray. This works a treat in creating a gorgeous matte finish and (most importantly) locks your makeup to your face like it has some kind of invisible super power. You can party the night away and still take some filter-free pics on your ride home. I love this!

3.NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray, £7. nyxcosmetics.co.uk

NYX setting spray
Credit: nyxcosmetics.co.uk

When I read about the woman who claimed her makeup stayed put (using NYX Setting Spray) throughout the trauma of a car crash, I wasn’t surprised. For me, this setting spray has serious gluing power, provides a beautiful matte finish and instead of nipping to the club toilet and cowering in sheer horror at your ‘Freddie Kruger-like’ reflection (obviously from seeing a face of smeared makeup, not blood), your flawless complexion is, well, actually PERFECT! NYX, I love you!

4.Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Setting Spray, £24, urbandecay.co.uk

urban decay setting spray
Credit: urban decay.co.uk

When it comes to makeup Urban Decay set their standards to a truly professional level (which is probably why they charge that much more). Urban Decay’s Setting Spray ticks all the boxes (no setting into lines and caking, or fading) and your makeup looks as if you had just applied it -even when you’ve gone from work to a party and then danced your ass off of 3 hours straight! To be fair I haven’t tested it after 16 hours (yet) but the party season has only just begun.

What are your favourite setting sprays? Leave your comments below and have a lovely Sunday people xx

The liner offers control, precision and staying power. Furthermore, it takes a hell of a long time before it runs out, making it such good value for money.
