Retinol’s Days Are Numbered: There’s A New Queen In Town And She’s Called Bakuchiol

Hey Lovelies!

Want the results retinol offers without the side-effects? Retinol’s days may be numbered! It’s time to discover the natural alternative, bakuchiol.

When it comes to skincare there are a few key products we should all be using. These include vitamin C, E and retinol (vitamin A) and are brimming with vital antioxidant value. However, now there is another antioxidant on the table – making its name known across the globe for providing outstanding skin-loving benefits. Discover bakuchiol and why it is way better than retinol.

What is This Mystical Bakuchiol You Talk Of?

Pronounced “buh-coo-chee-all”, this antioxidant is in a beauty league of its own. Revered for having retinol-like anti-aging abilities, with its superpowers being the reduction of inflammation and excelling in the rejuvenation mission – this component packs a powerful punch and is literally transformative.

Bakuchiol is sourced from the bakuchiol seeds of the babchi plant, found mainly in Asia. offering a natural alternative to retinol. This plant-derived ingredient is perfect for those who are looking for all-natural skincare that delivers the same outstanding results we see from retinol. Should you suffer from sensitive skin and do not tolerate retinol products well, listen up; this has shown to cause none of the retinol-induced side effects yet gives the same outstanding results.

Basically, bakuchiol provides the skin with boosted collagen levels, added elasticity and the reduction of lines and wrinkles. All of this can be achieved without even a hint of flaky skin. Sold yet? I know I am.

Some Reasons Bakuchiol Rocks:

Natural / vegan skincare is fast-becoming the most sought-after beauty trend. Loved so much it deserves its own handprint on the wall of fame. Should you be looking for fast no-fuss product and application, check out this awesome gem: Formulated with 1% bakuchiol and 99% olive squalene, this all-natural product can be added to your daily moisturiser. Expect some effortlessly rejuvenated skin.

  1. Unlike retinol, you are not restricted to using it at night for fear of adverse reactions under direct sunlight.

2. It Comes Without Side Effects

Whereas retinol can cause skin sensitivity and should be used wisely of sensitive skin, bakuchiol has no harmful effect. It can be used regularly without dryness, flaking, redness or irritation. Hooray.

3. Natural Alternative – Better Results

The Inkey List Bakuchiol Moisturiser, £9.99 (30ml),. www.cultbeauty.com

the inkey list bakuchiol moisturiser

This fabulously cost-effective yet exceptional moisturiser by The Inkey List combines bakuchiol together with omega-3, sacha inchii oil and squalene. These ingredients work in unison to achieve incredible anti-aging and nourishing results.

Retinol increases cell turnover to achieve rejuvenation, whilst bakuchiol aids in the mitochondrial process. This component greatly enhances collagen and elastin production and usage (essential proteins for youthful skin).

4.Goodbye Wrinkles

Omorovicza Miracle Facial Oil, £82 (30ml), www.lookfantastic.com

I love a good facial oil and this…this is one PRECIOUS facial oil. Formulated with bakuchiol and a host of richly hydrating oils such as sweet almond oil, your skin will feel like an angel has literally blessed your face. Worth the price tag? I think so!

Should you hate wrinkles (like me) you can go ahead and wave bye bye to them. This component has shown to actively reduce the appearance of this troublesome feature. Thank you, God!

5.Acne-Reducing

Better yet, bakuchiol’s anti-inflammatory properties mean that acne and blemishes go from being a volcanic eruption of despair to being reduced to an insey wincey tiny dot soon to be out of your life forever. (Evoking bizarrely similar traits as to that of my recent break-up.)

100% pure concealer
Credit: Revolve

Okay, I understand this is a little more than we generally like to pay for our concealer – but this will last you far longer than a concealer pen, so it works out to be quite a reasonable buy. When I tried this product, I was totally smitten. Unlike many other concealers this formula feels so soft, blends perfectly into the skin and does NOT cause that dreaded cakey appearance that emphasises lines. For me, this is priceless.

The concealer is formulated with fruit and vegetable pigments, and is also water, sweat and oil resistant. It provides exceptional coverage that lasts.

100% Pure’s Concealer is available in 5 shades (the only downside). It is vegan and cruelty-free.

2.Gabriel Color Concealer, £15.96, www.amazon.co.uk

I tested out the Gabriel Dual Powder Foundation (from Gabriel Cosmetics) some time ago and was mega-impressed. The Color Concealer is pretty outstanding too. This extremely lightweight, water-based concealer achieves amazing coverage that looks totally natural. It literally blends in like a second skin. Additionally, being gluten-free and vegan is an immediate plus, too!

This concealer is available in 7 gorgeous shades.

3.Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Concealer, £7.94 (MSRP: £20), www.skinstore.com

Firstly, let me just say how cool this brand’s name is! The concealer is usually priced at £20 but is currently available at the SkinStore (part of the lookfantastic group) for just £7.94!

The formula is creamy, yet lightweight and boasts skin-nourishing ingredients such as aloe, cocoa extract and vitamin E. These components work together to further minimise the appearance of dark circles and any imperfections. The outcome is perfect coverage with an even and healthy-looking skin tone you will adore. I love this!

This concealer is only available in 4 shades (again the only downside I can find).

4.Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer, £9.75 (5ml) (RRP: £19.50), www.feelunique.com

Urban decay weightless concealer
Credit: Feel Unique

Probably my favourite vegan concealer of all is this one by Urban Decay. The all-singing, all-dancing concealer ticks every possible box and ensures you look incredible even on your worst day ever. Most importantly, under eye dark circles are diminished without bringing out fine lines for a spotlight dance. Urban Decay have combined Japanese green tea to aid in this process.

Their formula also combines Matrixyl 3000, Litchiderm (sourced from lychees) and sodium hyaluronate that work in unison to enhance an ultimately brighter and more radiant finish.  This concealer is available in 12 shades and is currently 50% off – so grab one now!
