7 Tips For Keeping The Dreaded Lurgy At Bay

Hey Lovelies!

Courtesy of UK weather, today was a taster of the bleak and hideous days, soon to become a semi-permanent fixture on our doorsteps – and it wasn’t pretty. Somehow the week transformed from warm and sunny happiness to unnecessarily harsh rain. Hang on, what happened to autumn? Never mind, apparently, we are just skipping that season this year and going straight for the killer winter. This year do not let the dreaded lurgy catch you off guard. The flu jab will only cover one strain of the bug, but don’t panic. Check these 7 tips for keeping nasty cold and flu germs at bay.

1.Immune System Super-Powers With Vitamin C: Try Vitabiotics Ultra Vitamin C Fizz, £4.95, www.vitabiotics.com

On occasions when I feel the need for a vitamin boost, I always use Vitabiotics. Their Ultra Vitamin C Fizz combines 1000mg vitamin C along with zinc to enable optimal absorption and benefits. These key ingredients work in unison to ensure your immune system is working on all cylinders, keeping you protected and the dreaded lurgy at bay. Furthermore, vitamin C supports a healthy nervous system and increases collagen production. This is a great alternative for those who hate to take tablets. It tastes like fizzy orange juice, making consumption a breeze. Vitabiotics also provide a tablet version too.

2.Hand Sanitizer In Bag At All Times: Try Carex Bubblegum Hand Gel, £1.45 (50ml), wwwsuperdrug.com

It is so important to keep your hands clean and bug-free during these sneeze-splattered months. I love Carex’s travel-friendly hand gel in bubble gum. It’s fun, fits in your bag with ease and gets the job done! No worries.

3.Handkerchief At The Ready (For Doctors’ Waiting Rooms)

Be it taking your children, going for your MOT, blood tests or whatever – visits to the doctor’s surgery are generally unavoidable. Also unavoidable are the people who were never taught by their parents to cover their mouths upon coughing. You are guaranteed to be squeezed into a seat in a busy doctor’s waiting room between two of them, with their apparent mission being to infect you. Take my advice, don’t worry about offending them (they don’t). Spend the hour sat waiting for your overdue appointment with a handkerchief over your mouth.

4.Shopping gloves (trolleys and baskets are filthier than your toilet): Try Top Glove Powdered Blue Vinyl Gloves, £3.54 (Box of 100), www.justgloves.co.uk

I don’t want to make anyone paranoid, but were you aware that trolleys and baskets carry more germs than a toilet seat? Gross huh? This is the place where (other than the doctor’s) you are probably going to catch the seasonal bug. Don’t let it happen. Carry some disposable gloves with you and bang, illness averted.

5.Flu Jab

The flu jab has received a bit of bad press of late. Understandable in some respect, given there are so many strains of flu and the flu jab doesn’t safeguard you from all of them. That said, very young, very old or those who are immune compromised should take the extra precaution and have the flu jab on offer. Remember asthmatics and those with egg allergies should consult their medical practitioner beforehand.

6.Wash Hands Regularly

This is probably the most important thing to remember. Washing your hands often ensures those dreaded germs are kept away.

7.Take ColdZyme Mouth Spray, £15.75, www.amazon.co.uk

Other than carrying a hanky around you can also arm yourself with this mouth spray. It forms a protective shield in your mouth, so anyone nearby who wasn’t taught to cover their mouths when coughing cannot infect you even if they are hosing you in the face!

Have you tried any of these options and what are your thoughts?
